ICR striking workers' protest on 18 June
Hundreds of Institute of Cancer Research workers have won significant pay rises after nearly three months — 68 in total days — of continuous strike action over pay and conditions. The lowest paid staff’s pay will increase up to 52%, with all staff winning above-inflation pay-rises, after years of poverty wages. Plans to downgrade the workplace pension scheme have been scrapped, and the staff canteen reinstated. Strikes were escalated to indefinite strike, with daily pickets coupled with rallies, marches, and other protests. The Unite union members, and the 30-person strike committee leading the strike, had rightly refused to call of strikes during negotiations.
