With this paper, we are launching a three-month campaign to raise £15,000, ending at Ideas for Freedom on the weekend of 21-22 November. We have no big money backers or crypto-billionaires to help fund our work. The money we are raising will go directly to help us organise in the run-up to the new student term and for our interventions into the Labour and Green Party conferences as well as the continued production of our newspaper, books, and pamphlets.
We’re asking comrades, readers and supporters, to stump up whatever they can and to encourage others to do so. Every branch collection, every workplace whip-round, every standing order set up this week brings us closer to the target — and helps to make our voice louder against the tyrants, bosses, and bureaucrats who would benefit from a weaker and smaller organised socialist left.
From this issue, every fortnight, this column will tell you how that fundraising is going: how much has come in, the kinds of activities our supporters have organised to drive up our funds and what the money is funding.
£15,000 in twelve weeks means roughly £1,250 a fortnight. That’s ambitious, but a pittance on the scale of our political project!
