Here we publish in English the statement of the LCR following a meeting that took place on Sunday 10 September to discuss joint candidacies of the left for the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2007. (French text below)
Joint candidacies: a debate curtailed
Statement by the Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire (LCR). An important meeting of the collectives for joint candidacies [for presidential and parliamentary elections in 2007] took place on 10 September at the Saint-Denis labour centre (Bourse du Travail). Important because, based on a text titled “Ambition and strategy”, it concerned discussion of the fundamental political choices for such candidacies. The decisive question was about relations with the Socialist Party: can we envisage a gathering of the whole left even though the Socialist Party day after day confirms its choice of social-liberalism? The LCR, which was present at this meeting, had submitted three amendments clearly affirming independence from the Socialist Party and the impossibility of realising a concrete parliamentary and governing alliance with it. Some amendments coming from local collectives, including those of Bouches-du- Rhône, were in just the same vein. None of them was included or even submitted to a vote, mainly because of pressure by the Communist Party (PCF). Also put in place was a provisional committee of spokespeople of 10 members “representing all the political persuasions”. The LCR is not party to this decision and is not represented on the committee.

Candidatures unitaires : un débat tronqué.
Communiqué de la LCR. Une réunion importante des collectifs pour des candidatures unitaires s’est tenue le 10 septembre à la Bourse du Travail de Saint-Denis. Importante car il s’agissait autour d’un texte intitulé « Ambition et stratégie » de trancher sur les options politiques fondamentales de telles candidatures. La question décisive a porté sur les relations au PS : faut-il envisager un rassemblement de toute la gauche alors même que le PS confirme jour après jourson choix social-libéral. La LCR, présente à cette réunion, avait déposé trois amendements affirmant clairement une indépendance vis-à-vis du PS et l’impossibilité de réaliser concrètement une alliance parlementaire et gouvernementale avec celui-ci. Des amendements issus des collectifs locaux, dont ceux des Bouches-du-Rhône, allaient également en ce sens. Aucun n’a été retenu ni même soumis au vote, en particulier sous la pression du PCF. Il a été également mis en place un collectif provisoire de porte-parole de dix membres « représentant l’ensemble des sensibilités politiques ». La LCR n’a pas été associée à cette démarche et n’y est pas représenté. Le 11 septembre 2006.
