A national campaign has been launched against City Academy schools. These are (usually new) schools which are, in return for minimal financial sponsorship are managed entirely by businesses or religious groups outside of any local community control. The campaign wants to press the TUC, the NUT and other teaching unions to launch a national conference and demo as agreed at last month’s TUC conference.

The Abortion Rights Campaign is organising a meeting on “Defend a woman’s right to choose!” on Wednesday 26 October, 7-9pm, Committee Room 3, House of Lords, London SW1

Abortion rights are now under sustained attack, on both sides of the Atlantic.

The sensationalist focus on later abortion is designed to confuse public and political opinion on a woman’s right to choose and win support for incremental restrictions. This meeting will discuss how to defend women’s rights.

The Campaign Against Criminalising Communities publicises some of the worst excesses of recent anti-terrorist legislation. They are distributing a cartoon book, Big Brother,by Kate Evans, looking at this.
