AMP FUNDRAISER FOR NO SWEAT

The funky people at ArtMusicPolitics (check ‘em out at www.artmusicpolitic.com) have organised a benefit gig for No Sweat. It’ll feature Tallulah (soulful singer/songwriter backed by a Patti Smith-esque band) and Beans on Toast (political and satirical country with an English twang). Admission is a mere £2 (with £1 going to No Sweat) so if you’re in London (or even if you’re not), get yerself down: Friday 17th June, 7pm-12.30am @ Nambucca, 596 Holloway Road, N7.

MAKE POVERTY HISTORY…MADE WITH SWEATSHOP LABOUR!

As we were saying... Some time back No Sweat moaned that the MPH wristbands (the silicon ones, not the cotton ones) are made in China, where unions are illegal and one of the most repressive regimes in the world is in charge. Seems the Independent has caught up!

This says a lot about the need for workers to be free to organise their own unions and set their own agendas rather than relying on monitoring or goodwill from afar. Oxfam and MPH should have known better. Let's hope the NGO sector learns from the experience.
