Leicester
On the eighth day of action, pickets at Leicester Central Station remained defiant and had been visibly buoyed by the levels of support they were getting from the public, mainly food. Public collections by local support group activists stand so far at over £800 including £150 raised at outside the Leicester v Rotherham match and £55 raised by local postal workers.

Public support for fire fighters in Leicester is particularly high in the wake of the death of a local fire fighter four weeks ago. The local press has accordingly been reserved in it's condemnation of the strike.

Norwich
The decision by FBU Exec to go into talks at ACAS was met with a degree of scepticism on the picket-line at Norwich. Firefighters couldn't see how a substantial pay-rise could be won through ACAS without major sacrifices in terms and conditions. Some firefighters admitted to losing faith in certain executive-council members, though not their own Eastern Region reps. Others suggested the move was a clever tactic and looked to a renewed struggle in the new year with a government stretched by the demands of a foreign war.

A march and rally called for Saturday 14 December will go ahead with speakers from Trades Council and several unions. Saturday stalls petitioning and collecting for the FBU will also continue 12.00-2.00pm in the Haymarket area of Norwich. Coaches from the city will travel to the TUC-sponsored rally Saturday 7 December.
