The new issue of 'Tubeworker' discusses the recent riots, with both reports on how it affected us at work and a look at the wider context. It also calls for a concerted campaign over pay, celebrates the reinstatement of Tunde Umanah, and lots lots more.

That's a shocker - 7 months' notice but still refused! Does this company expect us not to have a life - or just to fit what life we have around their needs?!

This problem is getting worse for one simple reason - the job cuts. With staffing levels now at bare bones levels, it is harder even for co-operative admin staff to cover someone being off. Yet again, we are being made to suffer for management's disregard for staffing needs.

Having said all that, the agreements say that if your rep requests a rest-day roster, management have to conduct a survey of reserve staff (separately for each grade) in conjunction with the union reps, and if a majority want it, they should introduce it.
