Fighting for improved staffing on the Liz Line

With the summer holidays in full flow, we are seeing the usual spike in anti-social behaviour on the Elizabeth line. More worryingly, instances of violence are on the rise with one staff member being hospitalised. Staff are rightly concerned for their safety and are calling on the employer to address this.

In the last couple of months we have seen the rollout of Rail Security and Safeguarding Officers (RSSOs) to provide re-assurance and deter fare evasion. While this is welcome, they are spread thin across the line.

Reps are meeting management this month to discuss rosters ahead of the impending timetable change next year. This is an opportunity to bring more shifts in-house and reduce reliance on agency staff. Staff workloads have been constantly rising and now is the time to correct this.
