DLR Escalator Failure Shows Danger of Understaffing

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

A shocking incident at Cutty Sark DLR station the other day shows the risks of understaffing.

The up escalator threw itself into downward running, causing passengers to fall and get injured. Pressing the emergency stop did not help, as it did not work.

Reports of the incident show alarm from passengers at the lack of staff available to help. Cutty Sark is one of the few DLR stations which has any staff at all, but still staffing levels are inadequate.

DLR needs more station staff; and London Underground needs to learn from this episode how perilous it would be to cut station staffing.
