Fare Rises Hit Low-Paid Cleaners

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

I was told by one cleaner that if the price of travel keeps going up at the rate it is at the moment that they will not be able to travel and work.

Unlike LUL staff, the cleaners have to pay to travel between stations out of their pockets. They get stopped by RCIs and asked for their ticket, and if they don’t have one, the cleaner will end up with a fine which comes out of their pocket - the companies will not give the staff the money back.

I think this is a disgrace. All cleaners, no matter what part of the transport they work on, should get free travel. The companies make enough profit to do this for their staff. Bosses get expenses to get their money back, but a cleaner will never get it back. It's money they could be spending on their family or in shops to help the economy.
