To lamp or not to lamp?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Vic line managers say that station staff no longer have to show a green signal to the driver of the last trains. This has caused some confusion, with some stations following the old procedure and other stations following the new one.

The new signalling system is more reliable than station staff at ensuring last trains depart on time, apparently.

But that misses a couple of points.

Firstly, station staff need some control over the last train’s departure, to help clear the station of passengers. Dealing with angry passengers after last trains is hard enough already.

Lastly, when did Vic Line managers get to re-write a procedure in the Rule Book, such as lamping out?

This is another example of taking away station staffs’ responsibilities, no doubt making future job cuts easier. Each little attack like this must be resisted.
