Defend Detrainment Staff!

LU management are coming after station staff jobs again - this time, detrainment staff on the north end of the Bakerloo line.

Management announced to staff at the end of June that all 38 trains in the Bakerloo fleet are due to be modified, and for some reason they think this means they won't need so many detrainment staff. Management plan to cut jobs at Harrow & Wealdstone, Stonebridge Park and Queens Park, claiming that only a limited number of detrainments will need to be carried out, only for trains stabling in depots.

Management proudbly told us there would be no compulsory redundancies! Of course there won't - we have a ten-year-old agreement that guarantees that! - but it is beside the point: job cuts are job cuts, whether achieved by compulsory redundancy or displacement.

Management are already trying to engage staff in co-operating with the abolition of our own jobs, encouraging us to opt for displacement, promotion or even voluntary severance. All those are just different options for building our own gallows. 22 of the 24 detrainment staff are RMT members, and they have a history of fighting to defend decent staffing levels for detrainment. So there is no need for us to be discussing with our attackers how they should carry out their attack. We can, and must, fight these job cuts.
