Olympics Round the Clock

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Talks between management and unions about the Olympics are underway. On the nights of the opening and closing ceremonies, LU say they want to run trains until 0430, but insist this will not be a 24 hour service!

They can't seriously expect us to believe that a 30 minute gap between 0430 and 5am means anything other than trains round the clock.

They hope to decieve us because LU only have 24 hour working agreed for a certain number of times a year. If they exceed this limit, they will have to reward us.

But their transparent trickery will not wash. From this, we get a sense of the level of inconvenience we will experience during the Olympics. In the run-up, we will have to be on the alert for management's attempt to squeeze even more from us during this time.

They will try to make us do extra without reward. But even if we are rewarded with a handsome some, we should be careful what we agree to. LU will also try to use the Olympics to implement new, casualised ways of working as a precedent for the future. We should not be tempted to sell our hard-won conditions of employment, even for a substantial bribe.
