Category A

Northern Line platforms were always 'category A' platforms. A member of station staff needed to be on the platform for 'assisted dispatch' if the in-cab CCTV did not have a full view of the platform.

Northern Line management are now in the process of recategorising the majority of platforms from 'A' to 'B' so the driver can 'self-dispatch'.

The only 'category A' platforms will be curved platforms. On straight platforms, drivers will have to stand at the doors then move across to their seat before driving the train. The old procedure guaranteed a full view of the platform from the seated position.

This happens to coincide with the mass cull of station staff numbers. It is just like we warned: they take staff away, force more responsibility onto remaining people and compromise safety.
