Enhanced AFM Functionality: Just Say No

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

It's due to start next week, it puts us in danger, it makes us do higher-paid grades' work on the cheap, and its a threat to our jobs and our ever-decreasing promotion chances. What is it? Enhanced AFM Functionality.

LU management are trying to export functions out of a ticket office into the ticket hall. So they are programming the AFMs (Advance Fare Machines) so that anyone with a ticket-selling licence (eg. a CSA who qualified in the ticket office in the forlorn hope of getting a promotion to SAMF) can use them to carry out tasks such as resolving unresolved journeys on Oyster cards. The potential for problems and conflict should be obvious, not that management seem to care.

RMT and TSSA should put on an official boycott of this. But should bureaucracy and/or anti-union laws prevent this from happening, we should take matters into our own hands. We owe management no favours, and if we go along with this scheme, it would be like building our own gallows.

So don't do it. Don't put yourself or your job in danger.
