No Fire Cover? Not safe -> not working!

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

There is quite some disruption today, as plenty of workers have realised that running an underround railway without adequate fire cover is not safe - so are refusing to do it.

The Jubilee is currently suspended between Green Park and North Greenwich due to the quaintly-titled "operational problems". There are also delays on the Piccadilly and Central lines. Well, lack of fire cover due to the FBU strike is certainy an "operational problem". Even more of a problem is management's insistence on running a serivce without the LFB. Anyone would think it was one employer taking secondary action in support of another!

While management have taken a horrendous risk with public safety by trying to run a service, their attempts to intimidate staff into going along with their unsafe operation add insult to injury. They are systematically threatening staff, putting out documents that claim to assure safety but have not been agreed by any union safety rep, and even kicked one RMT health & safety rep out of his own depot!

Remember - you have a legal right to refuse to work if you have health and safety concerns. And last time the FBU were on strike, LU docked pay from people who refused to work - only to give it all back!
