Bank group management are trying to cut from 2 to 1 the number of staff on the westbound Central line platform during the peak. As any Central line driver will tell you, the platform has a very significant curve, and even two staff are barely enough to see the PTI clearly for the full length of a packed peak-time platform.
Still, management reckon that it is the driver's job to check the PTI is clear. So when there is an incident - maybe even a fatality - who will get the blame? It's a toss-up between the single station staff or the driver. You cna be sure it won't be the managers whose determination to cut staffing put lives at risk.
