Cleaners Driven Up The Wall!

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

ISS on TubeLines are trialling a new scheme to save themselves some money and squeeze more work from their employees.

At stations including Euston, deep cleaning that would formerly have been done during engineering hours will be done during traffic hours; no extra staff will be employed. With two cleaners at Euston in the morning and only one in the afternoon, nobody exactly has much time to spare as it is. As one cleaner put it, 'You expect a cleaner on £6.50 an hour to start washing walls for no extra pay? It's not going to happen'.

RMT reps were excluded from the consultation on this new scheme. RMT reps will have to encourage all cleaners to refuse to do this excessive work, and support them every step of the way.
