Management's claims that there will be no compulsory redundancies simply do not match up. They are waving around a list of people in the firing line and a list of vacancies which is bigger. But you can't tell someone in a clerical grade to suddenly apply for a job as a project manager or engineer. It's not just the number of vacancies, but WHAT vacancies, that is important. RMT already has three members who have told they have not been successful at interview and will go into the pool for 16 weeks when they're job ends. At the end of 16 weeks, we are likely to be looking at compulsory redundancies for those people.
In any case, it's not a matter of how many, or which people, are affected. We are fighting against management being able to make compulsory redundancies full stop.
