A Bit Dim

Drivers and other staff have long demanded proper lighting in deopts for the avoidance of accidents.

Part of the process for achieving this is for management to conduct lighting surveys. However, it helps if they use the equipment properly. It seems that the lux readers were held at waist height rather than placed on the ground as they should be. Surveys done in this will probably have to be done again.

To add insult to potential injury, it seems that Metronet have gone ahead and done a load of lighting surveys without the trains safety reps present. Given that most locations fell below the required standard, we wonder whether Metronet had something to hide.

Tubeworker's special award goes to Watford, which relies on lighting from an adjacent housing estate, has no lighting at all at the north end of the sidings and advises drivers to use their hand-lamp!
