Back Slapping

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

As TfL/LUL management tell us that we have to lose jobs and tighten our belts because of the recession, you might wonder whether this is the right time for them to be living it up at a slap-up, back-slapping awards ceremony. But yes, they hot-footed it down to the Novotel Hotel in Hammersmith for a very lovely dinner and to hand each other gongs at the annual London Transport Awards.

Management have sent us all a bulletin about how great they are, as LUL picked up a couple of awards. But given that there are dozens of award categories and a limited number of public transport providers in London, perhaps their 'success' is not as big a deal as they would like us to think. It's a bit like the radish winning an award for Best Small Red Vegetable at the annual Salad Ingredients Awards, fighting off stiff competition from the cherry tomato.

Of course, whatever good transport services earned LUL and others their awards were actually delivered by the hard graft of the workforce. So how about giving us an award in the form of a decent pay offer? Or has all the money been spent on back-slapping nosh-ups like this one?
