Another Cleaner Rep Sacked

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Fred Dappah, RMT cleaner rep at Hammersmith depot, has been sacked. Despite having permission to work while his status in under consideration, his employer decided to sack him for not having permanent papers! Or perhaps it was for being an assertive and effective union rep?!

Fred is the latest in a long line of cleaner reps to be victimised and sacked. If RMT is to prevent all its hard work among cleaners being unpicked by management victimisations, it needs an urgent strategy to challenge and reverse this.

The first step could be to organise the sacked reps into a team of organisers, resourced by head office, to go our on the job rebuilding the union's strangth in the grade. And in the meantime, of course, we have to fight their individual cases, as an injury to one is an injury to all.
