Angel has the longest escalators on the Underground. Last week, two out of three were defective. The remaining one was heading up, so passengers had to make the long journey down by using one of the defective escalators as a stairway. Not surprisingly, three people fell in one evening. London Underground denied all responsibility, blaming the passengers for being intoxicated. Maybe London Underground, in addition to the booze ban, should tell its passengers not to drink full stop in case any station they travel through has defective equipment. Or maybe London Underground should not put passengers at risk and close stations when there is a risk to their safety.
