EDF Powerlink workers will keep on striking!

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Before Xmas we reported on EDF Powerlink workers' (the technicians who help supply the current to the Tube) fight for pay parity with day workers, which means they are demanding an extra £3 grand a year. They took their second lot of strike action on boxing day. In January they set six more strike dates.

Management didn't originally have much time for their demands, but after seeing six strike dates ahead of them, offered £2 grand in negotiations. A pretty good offer, you might think. But when it was taken back to the workers involved, they said, 'no way, we'll go ahead with these strikes'! So there were more strikes on Monday, and will be five more until management make more money available.

If every group of workers on the Underground showed this much militancy and determination, we would be running rings round management. They have a sense of the powerful position they are in and they are using it. It's an inspiration in how to confront the effects of the credit crunch head on, and an example to us as we head into our fight over pay this year.
