Auto-Completion Unfairness

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

'Auto-completion' seemed to be playing some kind of joke on passengers over the bank holiday weekend - which of course made life more difficult for staff too.

PAYG customers were charged £2 for a single journey from stations like Greenford to Notting Hill Gate, although the advertised price is £1. NOC had the rather strange explanation that there was a 'base rate' of £1.50, a figure that only makes sense if you assume that everyone going to the Carnival passes through Zone 1. Which means that people travelling from west London - or places west of London - were being deliberately overcharged by the Oyster system.

Carnival weekend is hard work for station staff any way. Inept and unfair decisions about charging make it much worse, by adding unnecessary grief to our already high workload.

Which all goes to show what happens when management make the decisions. Workers would do a much better job of it.
