Ricky: Vote Yes to Stop These Displacements

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

RMT is balloting station staff on the Rickmansworth group for strike action after management went ahead with issuing displacement notices to five CSAs.

LUL has been threatening to do this since last year, after creating the problem itself by sending a dozen staff 'above numbers' to Ricky group by mistake. Tubeworker reckons that the one who made the mistake should clear up the mess, and that staff should not be made to pay the price for company cock-ups. Management, on the other hand, seem to think it is OK to force staff to move to another station, miles away, even though they had been told that their Ricky position was permanent, some of them have shelled out a load of money moving to the area, and the move will entail hours of extra travelling time including staff taxis for people who do not currently need to use them.

Anyone would think that LUL only cares about saving money, not about staff's welfare and rights.

It is crucial that the maximum number of staff vote Yes. Everyone on the group knows that the CSAs' case is just, and objects to management's shabby treatment of their workmates. Now, we have to put that support into action. Don't leave the ballot paper on top of the fridge - fill it in and send it back! Don't forget to vote Yes to both strike action and action short of strikes: it's not an either/or vote, and we may need to use both tactics during our campaign.

The union should then name strikes, timed if possible to coincide with action by other workers. Station staff need to strike solidly, and drivers should seriously consider whether it is safe to drive trains through unstaffed stations. Should one day out not be enough to make management see sense, then we will have to broaden out the action across the Underground, especially as forced displacements are happening elsewhere too.
