Read It?

Tubeworker wonders whether duty managers actually read policies before using them to bash staff.

For instance, there is a line in the attendance policy that clearly states that if someone has a year's faultless attendance previous to the items that trigger the policy, then you should not send them to an LDI. Yet we are aware of several occasions - the latest on the Bakerloo line - where the DSM has called the LDI anyway, and when the union rep has pointed out their error, has confessed to 'not having read that bit'. In this latest case, the DSM went ahead and issued a warning anyway!

Action under the attendance policy can cause the staff concerned a great deal of stress, and at further stages can block promotion and even cost you your job. So the least that managers could do is read it!

Makes you wonder whether 'competence assurance' applies to managers.
