Nuclear Risk

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Mayor Livingstone commisioned a Nuclear Transportation Risk Assesment for London due to concerns about trains carrying nuclear waste through London. This was awarded to Serco Assurance Limited.
Where do these trains travel? Over the Bakerloo Line and the London Overground, on both slow and fast lines, operated by Direct Rail Services (DRS), a fully-owned subsidary of the Nuclear Decommisioning Authority (NDA).

And yet local London Underground emergency plans give no guidance or contact details for staff to follow in the event of an incident. There are no Nuclear Information posters on display similar to the Health and Safety Law poster. There are also concerns about the robustness of these trains during a fire in a tunnel section, and their ability to withsatnd the impact if they fall more than 9m down an embankment in an open section.

Worried? We are certainly entitled to be. We need urgent answers from management and loud questions from the unions.
