Unity is strength

"Unity is strength" a phrase key to worker solidarity and maxim frequently used by the RMT.
Management like nothing better than a divided work force and when workers bicker and work against each then management can't but help rub their hands with delight.

Sadly this has been endemic with the three rail unions that represent London Underground employees and has seen disputes with the management be less effective than they could have been.

However a refreshing change occured last Thursday down "Wembley Way"

Last week Neasden held their regular 4 weekly Branch meeting and because of the trouble two of it's members had been caused by Jubilee Line management the meeting was made a special open meeting to discuss the situation about sacked Train Operator Raj Nathvani and Les Bruty who is also facing disciplinary action.

Members from all the Trade Unions were invited and an impressive show of unity was shown with a mixture of rank and file members and Union hierachy airing their opinions.

Management should be start being worried because it was far from being a downtrodden entity, the atmosphere was that of a belligerent and unified workforce. Both train operators and station staff spoke with a single voice and agreed that management's behaviour around various locations round the system can no longer be tolerated and the time is appropriate for concerted action.Over a 100 people attended the meeting and this sends a clear management that we are prepared to fight our corner!

It is important to put our differences behind us and have cross union co-operation.The time for bickering is over and wounds need to be healed.

There can be no going back, the past is the past and the time is to work towards a brighter future for all staff of all grades.

Nothing is impossible.

Note: nearly £400 was raised in a collection for sacked train operator Raj Nathvani on the night.

LUL management, obviously feeling the pressure of workers mobilising to defend their workmates, have shied off sacking Les Bruty. His disciplinary hearing handed out a one-year warning instead.
