Service Control: displacements leave duties uncovered!

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on Tue, 07/02/2006 - 13:12,

Management having given lots of people severance and displaced some ex-apprentices to the stations, there are now incidents where shifts in service operator grade can't be covered (as Tubeworker predicted back in September).

Remember: you don't have to work overtime, and you don't have to give any reason why not - you can't be forced to work beyond your booked finishing time. Everyone should make sure that they are familiar with the working manual procedure for closing a signal cabin - and everyone should refuse to work overtime (apart from the odd 10 mins because your relief is running late, to avoid them getting booked).

It's only when shifts are uncovered, or when duty managers are having to cover them (as happened recently) that they will realise that they don't have enough people to cover the job - and get some more in, starting with bringing back those displaced apprentices who have been treated appallingly.
