District Line drivers to take action from 6 March

District Line drivers in RMT have voted by an overwhelming majority to take action over LU's failure to provide adequate training before its imposition of the SMA3 automatic operation system on a section of the line. They'll take action from 6 March, by refusing to drive in automatic mode on the SMA3 section.

With in-cab training having been suspended for some time due to Covid, it would seem logical to suspend the rollout until drivers had been properly trained on the new system. But LU is insisting on imposing SMA3 anyway.

RMT turned around an industrial action ballot in especially quick time, with 83 out of 85 drivers voting to take action, representing a turnout of 59%.

This is a basic safety matter: the employer imposing new systems or ways of working without training us adequately on them simply isn't safe.
