Station staff fatigue

Work/Life Balance

Staff at Redbridge and other stations on the cover group have been running around on cover weeks to keep stations open. Management are now making desperate calls to cover shifts on overtime in order to keep this up. With so much OT already being exhausted, and more staff due to shield under the recent change in government guidelines, one has to wonder how much longer some stations can remain open. You cannot continue to flog a dead horse. Once again, we're seeing how little respect and regard LU bosses have for us, the workers, the people who run the railway. We have kept the Tube running as an essential service, and want to continue to do so, but selective station closures must be considered to take the pressure off staff.

Historic promises from the employer about work/life balance have already been shown up as meaningless due to waves of staff cuts. Numbers on stations have been cut to the bone and rosters are often weighted towards extreme shifts, with no room to manoeuvre. With the pandemic taking its toll on everyone, LU needs to get serious about staff health. Fatigue can take a serious toll on our immune systems; in the context of the pandemic, good work/life balance could be a matter of life and death.
