Oxford Circus Swimming Pool?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Staff at Oxford Circus are wondering whether they might soon need waders and galoshes as part of their PPE, as a series of leaks have led to significant build-ups of water on platforms and in passageways.

Station staff and cleaners have done a good job managing the situation to keep the place safe for passengers, but unless the underlying issue (which seems to be a problem with piping) is properly fixed in short order, that won't be possible for much longer. Union safety reps are on the case and will need to make sure management don't cut corners with safety.

Tubeworker wonders whether issues like this could have been caught earlier if LU had spent less money on baubles during the shambolic "Fit for the Future" implementation (like the £4 million+ it shelled out to training company "Interact" to provide widely-reviled customer service training for station staff) and more money on maintenance budgets.

Tubeworker also recalls a flooding issue at Euston, around this time last year, where the problem was exacerbated by different contractors passing the buck. We wonder whether the problems at Oxo could have been dealt with more smoothly if LU's station maintenance work wasn't substantially contracted-out to private companies...
