Congestion Crisis - But What Do Management Care?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

King's Cross station closed due to overcrowding in the middle of the evening rush hour on the night that Arsenal played Newcastle. Euston became packed with their traffic so had to close as well. Fuming passengers took their aggression out on staff, refusing to evacuate, saying we 'don't deserve our £25 thousand a year'!

In the middle of all this, a Director rings up a Service Manager who rings Euston ops room, demanding to know what's going on. With two consecutive stations on the line closed, and the next one, Warren Street, getting hammered, they feared that the line would have to close. Not dealing with the hassle, the abuse, or trying to run a safe service. Just trying to keep to their targets. And this is what justifies their fat salaries!

Meanwhile, station staff are out there getting it in the neck and, contrary to popular belief, not earning as much as £25 thousand a year for it!
