A brighter cleaner future?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

It is good to see at last that cleaners are getting recognised as an important part of the Railway workforce by the Unions. The RMT are playing an important part in encouraging cleaners working on the railway to join the Union and have been actively campaigning and holding meetings to promote recruitment amongst a badly treated workforce.

Perhaps it is long overdue and we can all feel a bit guilty that we have overlooked our fellow workers for so long.

Have these pangs of guilt now resulted in TWO unions battling for the members amongst the cleaning grades? Both the RMT & the T&G are competing in the recruitment stakes but it must be said that the RMT is the natural home for these workers because of its experience in the railway industry.

Having an Unionised workforce amongst the cleaners will help empower workers to fight for improved pay & conditions. However it is also up to us as Reps and rank & file members to encourage, recruit and support new members on a daily basis.

Then we can work toward for a brighter cleaner future!
